Legoland Waterpark: The Redemption
Ever since the news that Legoland was building a water park next to its theme park, I was looking forward for it. Especially when our trip to the theme park last year in 2013 didn't really went through as exciting as I expected due to the excruciating heat. Water equals cooling. I sure hope that this water park will be a redemption for Legoland to its visitors.
The truth is, Haziq had been to the water park earlier than both myself and Dahlia when his kindergarten had organized a trip early this year. Ever since then, he always mentioned Legoland whenever he sees the Legoland ads. At least for him, the visit to the water park have a lasting impression than the theme park. For me that is a good sign.
We had to postponed our trip several times due to Haziq's health. The date moved from the National Day public holiday to the Malaysia Day. Even the date that we finally managed to go for the trip was almost compromised. We're supposed to go on the weekend, 2 days before the Malaysia Day - but Haziq suddenly got a fever. Finally, he recovers and we're being able to go on Malaysia Day public holiday. Yay!!!
The morning was hot as usual. I parked the car at the Parking Lot A. I does take some distance to walk to the entrance but the parking fee is preferable than my usual spot near the Medini. It is fixed RM9 per entry.
LegoHacks: There are 3 parking lots if you want to go to Legoland. There are the parking near the Medini shopping center and also the parking lots dedicated to Legoland. Parking your car at the dedicated parking lots like what I had done will make you walk the distance to the Legoland, but the rate is preferable since it is fixed.
Buying the entrance ticket was as usual hassle free. The Legoland personnel was courteous. Even though according to him the wave beach don't have the wave today because of of some technical issues, I hope it will not dampen my visit today.
LegoHacks: You can actually save 20% off the retail price of the ticket if you buy it online. The reality is if you're a Malaysian, it is actually better you just buy the ticket at the counter. Online ticket only have a fix date while you can take a rain check if anything happens if you will only buy the ticket at the counter. Another major factor is that, the value is just the same. You even got an RM10 food voucher with the ticket.
Uh, oh! Since this is my visit to the water park, I had tried to entered it from the main entrance by mistake. The entrance for the water park is actually at the left side of the main entrance. Walking through the narrow pathway, beside the Legoland Hotel and lastly lo and behold - the Legoland water park entrance.
I immediately noticed that the ticket for the water park can also be purchased from this entrance.
Looking forward to finally steps into the water attractions, we quickly changed to our swimming suit. The shower room/toilets and the lockers are located right on top of the staircase after the entrance.
LegoHacks: There are two types of lockers that you can rent based on its size - big and small. The small locker is actually already adequate if you only want to put your valuables - which is the only things that you should consider to put in the locker. You wouldn't want to race back and forth to the locker room when you're enjoying your time. The rental for the small locker is RM20. But hey, it is for multi usage. You can use it for the whole day.
The first pool that we hit was the Duplo Splash Safari pool. This pool is intended for small kids aged 5 and below. It seems that Haziq fit into the pool instantaneously when he played enthusiastically at the elephant fountain.
But we're here not to play at the kids pool, so we're hitting the Build-a-Raft River next. After Haziq finished being strapped with the safety vest, we're ready to go. Going through the River was relaxing. The current for the river is the strongest ever compared to other water parks. We could just lie back in our tubes while the current will carry us for throughout loop of the river.
Along the river were large Lego bricks that you can collect. With the various colored Lego bricks you could build anything that you want or you can just throw the bricks at your friends along the river. One thing that I really appreciate is that the water quality of the river was excellent. It was crystal clear.
After a loop at the River, for me it is time to look around the whole water park. Dahlia can't really walk too long, so I decided to do a fast walk around the park while Haziq and Dahlia having a splash at the Lego Wave Pool. You know, the pool that don't have the wave I mentioned earlier.
For Haziq, he didn't really care whether there is a wave or not. For him, it is enough when there is water for him to splash around.
The rest of the water park is all about the slides. Slides everywhere. But unfortunately I didn't try most of it.
Mostly because I don't want to queue up the long line pushing the tube upwards the starting line. I'm not going to waste my energy and my time waiting in line. Second because with Dahlia pregnancy, I'm not really keen to play the slides all by myself. Even Haziq is not suitable to play the slides since he is still shorter than 100cm (grow fasterla Haziq!!!).
Because of that I have to have a miss to Twin Chaser, Brick Blaster, Splash N Swirl, and Tidal Tube.
Fortunately, I did try 3 of the slides. Let me tell you that it was great. One of them was unexpectedly exhilarating that I had tried it twice.
The first one that I tried was the Wave Rider. It was a closed tube that have a lot of spiral along the way to the end. It was OK. I tried it because the line wasn't long and I don't have to climb a lot of stairs to the top.
The second one kinda unique. It target group is the families. You will go through the slide with a giant round tube that will fit 4 adults. The best thing with this slide is that you don't have to bring the tube by yourselves to the top. They have this conveyor belt that will bring the tubes on top. That really save your energy and time.
I tried it with a father with his two kids. The ride was OK and slightly crazy since at the corner of the spirals you can really spins off.
The best slides that I managed to try was the Lego Slide Racer.
At first I was a bit hesitant since I tried at slide like this one once at Bukit Gambang Waterpark. But since the slide was so fast I hurt a bit of my body racing down the slide. The intersection of the slide was to blame.
But since there was basically no one was lining up for this ride, it was a no brainer for me to try it. The catch with this racer slide? Instead of a straight race sliding down, you will go through a big spiral before the long straight. It was a small change but the effect was seriously exhilarating.
The nice surprise is that sliding down the slide didn't hurt a bit. The foam for the slide can covers all of your body and leg and it is also very thick. You can enjoy the slide as much as you can! Because of that, I even tried it twice before running back to the Wave Beach where Dahlia and Haziq was waiting.
By the time I tried all the slides, it was already 12.30pm, and our stomach already grumbling. The Beach Grill was just beside the Wave Pool.
I had the burger set while Dahlia was having the fried chicken set. Haziq got himself the sausages kids meal set. Compared to the theme park, I must say the prices of the foods is high. The food coupons that we got at the entrance does helps here.
LegoHacks: Even though the price is high, I noticed that my burger patty is very large and thick. If you're not a heavy eater, why not choose the kid's meal. Haziq's meal set does look enough for me. Plus the price is half for the kid's meal. If you're a cheap skate that willing to take some risk (this is a compliment), I noticed some families that had bring their own food. I don't know how they get passed through the entrance, but like I said - if you want to take some risk....
The last thing that we enjoyed ourselves was the Joker Soaker.
I must say that the best thing that I enjoyed here were the unexpected. For the next two hours, we enjoyed ourselves at the Joker Soaker. Even Haziq enjoyed himself do much that he started singing 'Happy Birthday to you...'
The Joker Soaker is an interactive playground set. The highlight is the torrential pour of the 300 gallon bucket. The water flowing to the bucket is fast so you don't have to wait long for the next pour.
There are also some mini slides at this area. I managed to ride save for one because of the long line (again!). Even Dahlia with her pregnancy tried one of the slide. Haziq only play the shortest red slide at the bottom. Again and again and again. He pushed and shoved other kids and pulls me to play along with him.
Whole around the Joker Soaker area are placed water guns. You basically can shoot water to anyone from on top of the playground. The last two hours at our visit had gone unnoticed in the Joaker Soaker.
At last it was time to go home. After cleaning ourselves, we went to the Surau just located at the left side of the locker room. It was clean and comfortable for the usage for the visitors.
Not surprisingly, even before we going out from the parking lot, Haziq was already snoring.
Before long, I was talking alone at the driver's seat.
This is a redemption. We will come back for more.
