Power Meeting with the Higher Orders
Called for a meeting at the HQ this week. The last time I went there for a meeting was two years ago. I realized it was some time for me when I had some problem recognizing the road heading the main office with all the changes in the couple of years.
Meeting with the higher ups with our director is always an adrenaline charged experience. Nothing in the meeting went not as I expected it to be.
Entering the 1/3 of the meeting it will be the whacking time. Basically everyone in the meeting will be whacked by the director. When I mean everyone, I MEAN everyone - even though you're just a puny level executive like myself.
F*ck you, you, you,
You in the front.
You in the back row.
Also you who try to hide in the corner.
OK, I was exaggerating a bit about that. I never heard him cursed. But that is what I'm sure everyone in the meeting felt.
It is the 'wake up call' session. Don't open your mouth in this session even though you think you are right. It'll backfire immediately with more f*cks coming your way.
The feeling of irony is humongous to me at this moment. I had just traveled 400km to be f*cked.
Then come the 'expectation' session. By this time the director will list out his actual expectation coming into the meeting. By this time he already mellowed a little bit.
It is in this moment that I need to show my mettle as an engineer. Some engineering jargon will be to come out when asking for my opinion.
Bla bla bla....Kerb weight.....bla....Life expectancy.....bla.....Performance......
(I'm f*cking awesome!) Perasan lebih..... Hahaha
The last third of the meeting is kinda relaxed compared to the beginning. At this time our director can already laughed at jokes. For me it is the 'realization' session. Even though the atmosphere is lighter, everyone need to take note what they will be expected to bring in the next meeting.
From what I have told you, it may looked like I hate to be in the meeting with my director. Yes, I do. I really am. But the reality is, it is in the series of meetings like this with my director that I learned a lot about the intricacies in the business world.
It is due to the fact that Engineers mind are wired differently from the Sales & Marketing Dept. We think logically, which will be detrimental from a sales perspective. And the hard truth is, if you want to climb on the rat race, you need to think as Sales instead of an Engineer.
After the fully charged meeting that lasted for 150 minutes, the meeting finally over. For me at least - because my managers will have another two sessions of meetings with the directors up until 7pm.
I'm saved until the next meeting in September. Muahahahah.
