Ramadhan Buffet 2014: Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort
Every Ramadhan, I will try to bring my family at least once to a Ramadhan buffet. This year we chose to eat at Tanjong Puteri Golf Resort and I asked Rosman to tagged along. We usually eat at this place during Ramadhan for buffet because it is near to my house. In fact, this will be the third time we will have the buffet after trying out at the Horizon Hill last year.
I still remember the first time Lia and myself went to TPGR for the buffet back in 2011. Lia the ever so conscious, kept pestering me to make the reservations. So there we were walking towards the buffet hall and Lia sulking because she thought I still didn't do the reservation.
"Ramai orang makan ni. Kalau penuh macam mana?"
When we arrived at the front desk, with the Bond-like style I said:
"Booking under Nol, Has-Nol for two."
Dayummm!!!!
What she didn't knew while I looked like dilly dallying in front of her, I already booked for reservation for both of us days earlier. She was caught surprised and after that my hand arm fell into the victim of her pinches. Totally worth it!
What happened this year though was the complete opposite. I had made the reservation on Thursday for our buka puasa on Saturday. The conversation was quite long since I inquired about Haziq. Since he is 4, he is in the border for the kid category (4 years old and above will need to pay). So I'm quite confident that the reservation went well. This will be my third time by the way.
But when I checked at the front desk, I was devastated when the person told me that no reservation under my name had been recorded.
Dayummmm!!!!
It was almost 7pm and buka puasa will be in about 20 minutes.
Dayummmm!!!!
I'm always annoyed if I'm being wronged when I'm in the right. With me arguing with the front desk, Lia already took out her WMD - the annoyed angry face while Rosman checking out his cellphone 'gangster' style, the manager relented in the end. They took out another table for the 4 of us and put it in the golfer's coffee shop. And maybe as a sweetener, I don't have to pay for Haziq.
Alhamdullilah.
After sitting at our table, we took turns to take the foods. As it turns out, even though it was Saturday it was full house. And I knew that during weekdays it will be more packed, since there will be companies that will bring their employees for buka puasa also.
The first rule when I go for any buffet is that to pick the foods that I don't usually eat, and in this case I didn't head out to the rice sections.
What I did go was to the warungs at the lower section of the Ramadhan Buffet area. They have the roti canai and murtabak stall. They have the mee goreng and kuehtiow stall. They have the pisang goreng stall. They also have the hotdog stall. The best was of course the kambing bakar and ayam tandoori stall. And also the satay stall.
While I'm not a fan of kambing bakar (Lia and Rosman are) the ayam tandoori was nice. It was quite hopeless to wait for the satays. There was always people waiting in line for them.
And then I looked around at the desert stalls.
As usual there were the fruit stall with some watermelons and pineapples. And also it was the usual cendol and ice kacang stall. The large table for the cakes was also available.
I had some experience with the ice kacang and cendol last time and I'm not a fan with them. But I raided the fruits and the cakes available.
And if you wonder what rice that they had served, they have three types of rice. Normally cooked rice, nasi goreng and also nasi beriyani. The lauk were variable from the chicken, the fish and also the shrimp. Most of the flavor was spicy. Lia and Rosman took some reasonably portion of dish in their plates. Me? I took the kuehtiow. It was great.
A while after berbuka, we took turns for the Maghrib prayer. The management had made the surau as the ladies prayer room and turned a hall for the men prayer room. The facilities was adequate for the whole visitors.
The one person that really enjoyed his time during the buffet was Haziq. And it didn't even involves food. It turns out that my colleague at the office, Khairul had brought his family for the buffet too. And their table was only next to ours.
Such coincidence!!!
So instead of eating at the table, he was quite happy playing with Khairul's daughter.
Of course Haziq also have some favorite dish of his own. He loves the hotdogs, the cakes and also another additional menu this year - the ice cream.
My second rule when eating at buffet is to pace my eating. And also to wear a loose pants. That is why I was wearing a sport track. But I had a misstep with my pacing with the eating. I think I had eaten too much cakes and deserts.
So I took another portion of kuehtiow and also a piece of ayam tandoori. Both are great.
Finally I managed to get a plate of the satays at the end. Rosman had waited for a while for the satays to be grilled. Even though the we only managed to get our hands on beef satays, it was delicious.
With the variety of foods that have been served and the quality of the menu that have been prepared, I would recommend anyone in Johor Bahru and Pasir Gudang to try this place for their Ramadhan buffet.
When I went to pay for the foods, the manager gave me his card. "Call me next time if you want to make the reservation. Sorry for earlier."
So if anyone want to make the reservation and not to repeat the same mistake that I had made, this is the number to call: Abd Talib bin Ludin 013-7835105.
