Pawi & Wani

It is strange how sometimes your action will have a profound impact on other lives. This is the story of Pawi & Wani - two of my acquaintance back in the varsity days. And I was the missing link between the two of them.

I got to know Wani first during the her Orientation Week. I was the committee for the residential college, and I'm required to send a name for a Pidato competition between college. I can't remember now but somehow I ended with her name & I required to send her to the competition. One about her that I remember at that time that she came from Seremban, the place that I had my high school SDAR.

UTM days - Orientation Week 2002.

The time that I got to know Pawi was when I got to live in their rental house during my one month practical in UTM. I'm not even know him directly since the person that I got the help was from another acquaintance. It was during the one month time that I got to know Pawi, Ilham, and the others. It was a small house but hey, it was better than nothing. As a uni student, you just can't complained so much since you just don't have the money.

As you can see, my encounter with Pawi & Wani are both accidental by nature. I didn't 'plan' to meet or know both of them. And by accident I was the one that introduced Wani to Pawi.

It was near the UTM Convocation Week that Pawi asked me for a favor. Since he was planning to sell flowers during the week, he asked me to hook with any female students so that he could deliver the flowers to the girl's dorm. As it turns out, I gave Wani's contact number.

I don't really follow up with Pawi & Wani regarding their ventures with the flower business but I guess they had took off really great because surprise, surprise - they became a couple after that. Fast forward until today, they are happily married with three kids. Up until today I'm still amazed with what I had unintentionally had done.

Since they are both working in Penang, I took the opportunity to give them a visit after the Penang Bridge Run. I already got their home address from them & it was a 30 minutes drive from the Penang island.

Their home is a nice double-story terrace house in Sungai Dua, Penang. They had bought it just before the properties boom happening in Penang - so they're in for a luck since the price was quite reasonable. The community of the area is quite small & the safety is secure with guarded security.

We had lunch in which Wani had cooked a splendid chicken rice. I can't really eat so much since my body still recuperating after the 10k run but Haziq had a mouthful since he was so hungry. After that we just talked & catching up on lost times.

What striking up the most during the conversation is how different of our life have been & yet still bear some resemblance in each other.

One of the thing that strike me the most was when Wani remarked how lucky we are since Lia is not working & manage to be a housewife. It seems that they have some misunderstanding about that. All thing considered, Lia being a housewife is not our preferable option. For us their situation is much better with Pawi & Wani both working in multinational companies in Penang.

I'm also like Pawi & Wani attitude in taking risk with their life. Considering that both of them have careers of their own, it is amazing that they already have three kids. Juggling both their jobs & kids must be a challenge but they seems to be handling it coolly. In my opinion, I had taken it too cautiously with my life. They also had taken some great leaps when they managed to went to Korea for holiday by themselves without the kids. That is really something that I envy about.

And yet it seems that Haziq is the same age as their second kid - Hadif. Since Hadif is the second child, it seems that he able to be quite independent on his own. I hope Haziq be able to learn to do just that next year.

Haziq & Hadif. Naturally you could tell that Pawi took the photo.

And even though Pawi & Wani managed to live in a comfortable house right now, they also struggling in the early days when they start working in Penang. It seems that they lived in an apartment for quite some time. And that was at the 4th floor to boot. After some time they decided to search for a new home - and luckily they found the right one. In my opinion, buying a dream house is the best achievement any family could wish for.

Since I was the only breadwinner in our family, sometimes it took some strain. Juggling job related stress, I was this close to jump into another job in the middle of the year. But the truth is the situation is the same with Pawi. Even though Wani is also working, I guess sometimes he also exposed to office stress. It was when Wani said that Pawi's photography hobby is a therapy that I knew it was serious.

The time sure flies at that time. Even though we don't have any particular topics that we talked, suddenly I realized that we had been in their home for three hours. After bidding our leave, we took off back to Parit Buntar.

It was a splendid reunion. I wish we could meet again another time. And to wonder that all this 'start' with an accident.
