A 'What If....' Incident
I had a recent 'what if' incident recently. It involves an accident to my car along Jalan Pantai - the Permas Jaya bridge when we're driving to go to my parent in law's house.
It was a case combination of the incapability of the government to build adequate quality roads plus the moronic habits of Malaysian drivers. It is a well known among the locals that the road entering the Permas Jaya bridge always a rough road. The segment between the beginning of the bridge & the end of the flat road had not built properly. In due time that section sunk considerable causing a big difference of height. There are repairs from time to time but all that can always be considered the case of 'melepaskan batuk di tangga' type of job. It was as though the road engineers in Malaysia are some kindergarten kids doing some doodling when designing the road & the bridge.
Another is the moronic habits of Malaysian drivers. It is always come to my observation that Malaysian drivers really like to drive really fast much to the chagrin of other road users. But our driving skill? It is comparable to the circus clown's bumper car buffoonery. In this case a driver slows up so much at the problem section so that to 'save' his sport rims (possibly) that he caused the right fast lane to a standstill. People were driving at 60 to 100km/h at that side of the road for god's sake!
In my case, I was driving sedately at 60km/h when I realized that the car in front of me had an emergency braking. Since I'm always keep a safe driving distance, I managed to stop the car exactly at two inches behind the car. Safe... I thought....
It seems the car behind me also managed to stop safely.....
The next car behind my car? Not so lucky. Suddenly there was the familiar crashing sound. Dam! Dam! Dam!
And then I felt a bump to my bumper. Shit! I closed my eyes. This is 2006 all over again.
After signalling to park to the right, I climbed down the car to see the damage.
The bad part? It was definitely a big scratch to the left side of my car bumper.
The good part? It was only a scratch since my bumper is not cracked.
The best part? No front damage & the rear damage was only limited only to that area. Compared to the pile up of accident at the back - there was at least 3 cars back to back accident. Mine wasn't so bad after all.
I asked the driver at the back of my car about his condition & bid my leave. I'll not pressing any claim for my damage. To stay there in the middle of the night to get the thing resolve is not my thing. Plus I already have my plan to repaint my car next month.....
When I strapped back to my driver's seat & driving to Taman Suria, I thought aloud to Rosman who sat beside me:
"Erm, kalau kita balik rumah ambik kunci yang tertinggal tadi mesti lambat sikit kita keluar. Maybe tak kena accident."
Interestingly he got a view on his own:
"Tak... kalau kita lambat sikit tadi, kita yang accident dekat belakang tadi. Accident depan belakang kereta."
Erm betul jugak.... And all this happens the night before I'll run the JB10K tomorrow morning!

The case of 2006. Front & rear damage. |
After 3 hours making the police report, need to wait for repair for 2 weeks. |

Retrospectively, it was not a big damage after all. |
I asked the driver at the back of my car about his condition & bid my leave. I'll not pressing any claim for my damage. To stay there in the middle of the night to get the thing resolve is not my thing. Plus I already have my plan to repaint my car next month.....
