Standard Chartered KL Run 2013: Conditioning the Body
The run is just at the corner. But my preparations for the run is quite messed up. This is the first time I didn't got the enthusiasm to prepare myself for the run.
I want to blame it on work pressure, but the reality is I'm not too occupied with work as everyone else in the factory. Being involved in the project that still in its infancy stage does give me some breather to breath once in a while. The real culprit is my own past experience with my left leg pain after the last run.
It seems that I just cannot get past the problem yet - mentally at least. Even though I had consult with the doctor & physiotherapist and training with some added ankle weight, I still have some doubt on myself regarding the pain. During running my usual 3km & 5km, there is still some lingering voice in my head that keep reminding me about the left leg. Ahhh, the frustration!!!
The second problem that I'm having is regarding the haze. Even before the haze blanketing Malaysia & Singapore from the past week, I have been having difficulties in breathing outside the house. I do have a mild asthma syndrome. When exposed to dust, I will start sneezing & having some mild migraine.
Two weeks before the haze incident in Pasir Gudang, Lia already noticed that the air isn't as clear as usual. Even though I'm doubted her, I started having some mild migraine after coming back to home from work. This does effect the body & mind, and to make the proper preparation does seem next to impossible.
However, there is a silver lining here. Iqbal will not run together with me in the 10km category as usual. He will compete in the half-marathon (21km) this time. He is also quite nervous with the run as this is his first attempt.
Since I'm running on my own, this does relieve some pressure off my back. I don't have to exert myself so much. My target for this run is to run 10km without any pain to my left leg. I know that I can run better without any pressure. I had done it during the Dragon Back Run back in January this year. I also had done my fastest time during running in JB back in December last year due to having less competitor (Iqbal doesn't run in that event).
I ran 5km this evening. Feels great even though I clocked a horrendous 40mins after running at a leisurely pace to avoid injury. Maybe I will run another 5km on Thursday and take a swim on Friday before taking the bus to KL.
So, this time I will run leisurely. Ah, maybe the category that I should be in Leisure category after all!!!
