Haziq's Badge of Honor

Today, we took Haziq to Hospital Pakar Pasir Gudang in the morning. Actually we planned to take him last Saturday, but since it was a public holiday on that day we postponed it to today.

Since end of April Haziq always got the flu & cough. Even though the flu & cough seems manageable in the morning, at night he truly can't stand the phlegm. He was always awakened at night when he can't breath. The doctor at the clinic that we always visited told us that maybe he got a mild case of semput (can't seem to get its English translation). So we decided to visit the doctor at the hospital to get a 2nd opinion to end Haziq's misery (and also mine - when awakened by Haziq at night).

Hospital Pakar Pasir Gudang is actually a new KPJ hospital in errr.... Pasir Gudang. So, it was not to my surprise that when we arrived at 8.45 in the morning, there was no patient in sight. Even some of the out-patient clinic still vacant.

The pediatrician that attended to us was Dr Aziz. He explained to us that the problem that Haziq experienced was because he was having an allergic reaction. The source of the reaction can be from the cold weather at night (which explained why he always awakened at 12am to 1am coughing), from carpet's mites or dust, and also can be from cat's fur (which Haziq's Atuk have). When Dr Aziz checked Haziq's breathing, his airline seems clean - there was no wheezing sound. He concluded that Haziq's case is a mild case.

Haziq maybe having the issue due to genetic. His aunt (Makcik Mah) & uncle (Pakcik Man) are my siblings that having mild asthma during kid. Me myself also having issues with resdung. Every 2 to 3 months, I always have congested nose & migraine which is annoying.

Anyway, during the explaination Dr Aziz did mentioned a blood test to check Haziq's allergic source. By using the blood, they can check what triggered the allergic reaction by testing it to several cause. Since I want to narrow down the source (Haziq have been having this issue only starting late April - what changes that we had make to his environment?), I agreed to have Haziq's blood taken.

Every parents will know that having their blood taken is not an experience that kids really looking into. Same as Haziq. I even anticipated that Haziq will throw a tantrum (at 3 years old, that is always an issue).

The personnel at the hospital were very experienced in dealing with kids. Even when they extracting Haziq's blood, they managed to do it with minimal issue. Some tears does rolled from Haziq's eyes, but it was only temporary. After awhile, he was looking at Lia & myself reassuringly. Bravo Haziq!

At the end of the day, Dr Aziz advised us to look for the environment issue that may trigger the allergic reaction to Haziq. Remove the source. And he also prescribed some drugs for Haziq to reduce the reaction.

Going back at home, I have never been so proud with Haziq as he wielded his badge of honor at his hand.....
